Your standing broad jump; the list goes on...


With all of these measurable, the most important which is impossible to quantify is H.E.A.R.T. Although it is impossible to measure someone's H.E.A.R.T it is plainly obvious when we are watching a player who plays their H.E.A.R.T out. The do so because they want to win and they want to be better then they were yesterday.

Nike to Rapist: Here's more $

Let me ask you a few questions, and answer them honestly.

Would you like an "alleged" rapist dating your daughter?

Would you like your impressionable son to look up to the same person just because he played football?

When there is smoke, is there usually fire?

Would you trust this same person with your sister?

Well Nike believes (or had made you to) that he's an "alright" guy. No...he isn't. He's actually a turd. And nobody keeps him or Nike accountable for his actions.

Don't let ANY company force feed a turd down you throat just because he wins games.

Winning is awesome, but when the game is over all you have left is you...and your character.

Giving Up



You know, when it comes to just about anything, you're always going to have to compete.

It doesn't matter if its school grades, athletics, at your job, in the gym, etc. Whether you choose to believe it or not, YOU ARE COMPETING.

After watching the Saints/Eagles game last night. I had this sickening feeling in my gut. Anyone with one functional eyeball could see that the Philadelphia Eagles gave up...

They not only gave up, but they completely quit. This is a terrible message to send to kids who look up to them, their fans, Coach and the City of Philadelphia.

This is why I believe it's important to teach kids (at a very young age) the importance of H.E.A.R.T.

Times are going to get rough, sometimes they might down right suck, but if you give up, it will NEVER...EVER get better. You have to dig deep, look inside yourself, put your big boy/girl pants and get to work.

The showed absolutely NO H.E.A.R.T and definitely forgot their big boy pants in Philly.

Lazy but Talented...

If you look at this shirt...I mean REALLY look at this shirt, it should piss you off.  It does for me.  I look at this shirt and it makes me sick to my stomach.

There are several reasons why this shirt bothers me, and I'm going to try and explain...

1. "Lazy but Talented"...what is the moral behind this phrase?  What/where is the motivation?  You're talented, ok, there are a ton of people with talent.  But you have the audacity to tell me that you're lazy as well?  Stupid...plain stupid.

2. I WAS the lazy but talented kid.  I look back at the talent that I wasted not working as hard as I should have been.  My college career was cut short because I was too lazy to go to class.  I look at this shirt and NIKE wants kids to think that it's cool to half-ass things...?  Stupid...

3. While you think it's cool to coast and not work hard, there is some kid out there (with probably less talent than you and a much bigger H.E.A.R.T) working his/her ass off to make you look like the lazy bastard you were all off-season.

4. This shirt was made for a professional football player.  What a great item to make for the youth to want to wear and emulate.  Do you really want your kid looking up to a Pro who endorses this type of sentiment?  Is this what you want your kid to strive for?

5. This shirt should now piss you off.

      Like any other football junkie, I was enthralled with the NFL Draft.  Well, the Draft has come and gone and like every year, there are guys who were taken too high, too low, or didn't get selected at all.  A lot of people think that not being selected is a testament to how good they (the player in question) "thought" they were.  Others think it's an oversight on scouting.  I tend to think that most scouts, GM's, coaches and owners fall in love with "numbers" and not the PLAYER who's putting up those numbers.

     While yes, it is true that some guys put up gawdy numbers because of the system they played in and it's easy to fall in love with stats...Sometimes you have to actually LOOK at the stats and see HOW they were put up!  I was told in my college Stats class that there are 3 kind of lies...lies, damn lies and STATS.  Statistics tell part but not the entire story.  Behind every statistical gain, there is a player behind them.  Whether these stats are system generated, roster induced (lack of quality players behind the starter) or basic workings of the team (i.e. Nebraska under Tom Osborne), there is a player that has worked their tail off to achieve them (college football is really hard...)

     This brings me to Chris Polk.  I've watched this young man ball his H.E.A.R.T out for the University of Washington over the past 4 years (he Redshirted his Frosh year because of injury).  He carried the team in 2009 when Jake Locker was getting all the love in the Great NW.  Everybody knows that every great Quarterback NEEDS a running game.  Without a running game, the defense just "sits back" and waits on every pass.  Needless to say, when Jake was struggling in 2010, it was Polk who picked up the pieces and gained over 1,400 yards rushing on 260 carries (yeah, you read that right...260).

     In his final year at the University of Washington, the school once again leaned heavily on Chris until first year starter Keith Price got his feet wet.  If you don't believe me about Polk's contribution to the Program, check out his bio for yourself...-----> Chris Polk stats. 

     All of this, his leadership, playing through pain, getting very little recognition lead him to what...?  Not getting drafted?  Are you kidding me?  This guy played his ass off for 3 years!  But you know what?  That doesn't matter to Chris.  Chris now has an opportunity to play for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL and it's not his "Stats"that got him there...it was his H.E.A.R.T. 

     So the next time you think that stats prove a player belongs, or how many accolades he/she has gained or how many Twitter followers they (you) have.  You need to look into their eyes and analyze what's beating in the chest.  Because there is nothing worse than competing against someone who still thinks they have something to prove and has one big ass chip on their shoulder...





     

Santonio Holmes = No H.E.A.R.T

There is nothing worse than quitting...nothing.  The one thing that makes quitting even worse is when it is displayed by a professional.  Enter, Santonio Holmes.  Not only is he playing on the biggest stage (the NFL) he is payed very...very well to do so.  You can find the ins and outs of his contract here------>CLICK ME. 

I'm not a fan of the Jet's, but I don't hate'm either.  What I do hate is shitty attitudes.  Especially a shitty attitude that believes it is either better than the team or quits on the team.  Where's the H.E.A.R.T in that?  Santonio Holmes quit on his team...period.  I know the media and NY PR people will try to spin this but it is what it is.  A team Captain doesn't get "benched" during the most important game of the year.  Even if that game "appears" unwinable (I know, this isn't a word, but it sounds good...so I'm going to use it).

The fifth paragraph in this article sums up everything in a nutshell (you can find the article here---->THE QUITTER LINK).  It's sad that an individual with absolutely NO H.E.A.R.T can manage to make it to the highest level of sports.  It's actually funny, except that being on this stage (the NFL), there are hundreds of thousands of kids watching this guy.  Kids who are impressionable and may think this kind of behavior is acceptable.  It isn't and shouldn't be.

I don't want to point fingers or cast judgement on anyone, but...this ISN'T what H.E.A.R.T looks like.
